Jacob Julius Larsen Birklid emigrated to the U.S. in the age of 23, and settled near New Richmond, Wisconsin. In 1895 he moved to Preston Township, Ransom county, and began farming. He studied for three years at Concordia College, Moorhead. He served as Preston township clerk in 29 years and was chairman for 14 of the 18 years he served on the board of commissioner. He was county auditor for three terms beginning in 1933, and county commissioner from January 1915 to April 1933. Jacob died in his farm home in Preston Township September 6 th, 1945. |
